Sam Martin: The Quirky World of “Manspaces”

Having a manspace is an interesting concept. Some men like Sam create a manspace because of children and needing more room, some men create them to have a free hang out spot for their buddies, or some may just need to get away from their wives for a few hours each day.

The question though is why do we make them. What compels a man to go out get a bunch of wood and build a clubhouse for adults. I believe its deeper than just needing more room. Men like solitude, a place of their own, and once married that vanishes from a mans life. Some manspaces are originally built for practical reasons but it all boils down to the guy wanting a space that is all his.

Manspaces, or “mancaves”, are a brilliant concept. Every man should have his own place to hang out and unwind. I feel like women should give having their own space a try or at least push their man to get one so they can use the current living space. Having a space is a great way to express oneself, pursue a hobby or have somewhere to put all the junk you got in college so you don’t have to throw it out.

I feel like Sam has touched an interesting but simple concept. Not very many people are that passionate about something as small as manspaces but he has searched for the most unique aspects of it.  Thanks to this video I have every intention of creating my own manspace once I’m married, possibly before I even leave my parents.

I have to agree with Sam, every man should “find a space and get in it.”

BTW: Sam has a comprehensive web site dedicated to the topic and has also written a book on manspaces called Manspace: A Primal Guide to Marking Your Territory. You’ll also find lots of newspaper articles written about him at the book link, too.
