Bob Thurman: We Can Be Buddhas

Bob Thurman explains the Dharma, the path of awakening, the truth.

The only true way to be happy is through generosity and compassion. You must be conscious of what is happening around you. Society now days is directing itself from these things. It now seems to be headed into a more “egocentric” way of life. A life of greed and inconsideration is hindering your experience of Dharma. This starts with people not being comfortable and thinking that we are “stuck in our skin.” It was Guatama Buddha’s discovery that everybody felt this way about themselves.

His presentation talks about how sacrificing certain things will actually make you happier.

To become a buddha you must strip away material things. Although Guatama Buddha was a prince and his dad said he could have whatever he wanted he was said to have been inspired by an old poor man. He became conscious and decided to go on a journey to see what was going on in the real world. Although he suffered and felt everybody’s pain he was still “jolly” because he was grateful.

If everybody did this the world would be a much better place. People would be conscious and considered. They wouldn’t be scared or afraid when you were “sitting on a park bench and someone came up to you and sat that close to you.”
