Sylvia Earle:  TED Prize Wish – Protect Our Oceans

Many people see the ocean as a vast and wonderful wilderness.

But what if that wilderness was reduced to just a pool. What if fish became extinct? What if our oceans were not protected and were deprived of their beauty and wonder?

Sylvia Earle is trying to reverse the effects of our maltreatment on the ocean.

Imagine a world without fish, coral, or whales.

This is the world of the future if we do not stop our destruction of sea life. Sylvia Earle believes there is still hope. She believes that we can reverse our destruction through the natural reserve system. Just like wildlife reserves on land, she wants to have marine life reserves in the ocean. She believes in preserving the wonder and mystery of the ocean for future generations. If we continue on our path the ocean will simply be a giant puddle. To lose the fish of the ocean is to lose the life of the ocean.

There is still time to save the ocean. Sylvia knows how. I would suggest this video if you believe the ocean needs saving and even if you don’t.

It opened my eyes. Sylvia Earle is trying to reverse the effects of our maltreatment on the ocean.
