Pranav Mistry:  The Thrilling Potential of Sixthsense Technology

This is probably one of the coolest inventions I have ever seen.

As far as the raw potential of this invention, it is incredible. This technology allows you to be able use a computer everywhere you go. There is a mini projector and it projects the computer screen on to almost any surface. The possibilities are endless.

Mistry got his interest in this sixth sense technology first by a simple computer mouse. He was interested in how we could leverage our knowledge about everyday objects and how we use them to interact with our everyday world. He used the idea of the rollers on an old computer mouse to be able to create a program where his movement could be tracked by the computer. His next step was being able to take what he wrote down on a sticky note, and put that into the computer. The computer was able to take in what he was writing and put it on the computer. His goal in all of this was to bring part of the physical world into the digital world and vise verse.

Mistry Pranav talks about wanting to take the pixels that are just contained in the camera to be able to project out onto something. His sixth sense device consists of a camera, color markers, a little projector and a mirror. The projector uses the pixels to project the screen onto almost any surface. Using the color markers, the camera is able to track the movements of your fingers. Like an iPhone, if you were to pinch your fingers together, the screen gets smaller and if you were to move them apart, the screen would get bigger.

One of the coolest things I think about the technology is that if you want to take a picture, all you have to do is hold your fingers up like you were taking one and it would take it. I have always wanted to be able to do that and I think it is so cool. Also say you have the news paper open to the weather section, the sixth sense technology will recognize it and give you the real time weather and forecasts which normally you could only do from your computers.

So as far as new inventions go, this probably has the most potential.

The only limits are within our imagination.
