Jennifer Lin is a very young composer and pianist.
At this TED talk, she was only fourteen. Being very young, she had a great amount of talent.
She was a student of the Yamaha Music Education System. Ms. Lin said that Yamaha taught her how to compose. They taught her to first get her theme of music. Next they taught her to get a structure and plan out the piece.
Ms. Lin compares composing to art. Like composing, in art you have to have a main theme or topic and make a structure and plan it out. After planning out, you then prepare for the real piece of work. Both tasks require focus of the mind. If you focus on something you can make something of it.
Ms Lin looked at five notes, focus, and played a segment. Piano and composing is a hobby and skill where you have to focus on what you are doing and not just to get there and wing it. Piano and composing falls under the category of music, and music is a art.
Art requires you to be creative, and Jennifer Lin was very creative.
