David Agus is a well known cancer doctor throughout the United States. His thought on cancer is that we do not need to try and figure out or discover a cure for cancer but we need to catch cancer early. It’s interesting how he says that many people take medication that doesn’t even touch the cancer cells, but in weeks the doctors would notice that the cancer was getting smaller. He also said though that it doesn’t necessarily mean that the cancer is getting better. See the cancer maybe shrinking in some manner but the cancer itself is still there and could be just as bad as before or even worse. I found this interesting also because in my mind before I always thought that you need to hit the cancer with a specific medicine that kills the cancer directly and then it shrinks and gets better, but he made it clear to me that in the war with cancer its not just simply shrinking the problem but finding away to make it better.
He also makes a great point about when he says regular day people usually see there pediatricians or yearly doctors only once a year. See that made me wonder because I am in no way near the average person so that didn’t pertain to me but I do not see how it is possible to only see your doctor once a year. This doesn’t allow your doctor to make good judgments of how your body is functioning or whether or not you need to be checked out or treated for something. Then he mentioned a “daily life device” that shows your intake of certain calories, fat calories, etc. The device also shows your activity and everything that has occurred in your body through out an entire day. From this you can get a general average of your body temperature, calorie intake, and over all tell where your body is ill or sick. This could change many medical emergencies if more people in society wore these devices and could change the number of disease cases the United States has each year. In the near future hopefully doctors can create a device that can pick up cancer cells in the body and help pick up on cancer early. Although this device would be extremely hard to develop I believe in the near future that our doctors will have the technology and knowledge to create this device.
