Juan Enriquez:  Genomics and Our Future

This discussion goes to talk about how DNA effects everything we do and how technology is becoming amazing. Everything in the world has DNA in it so if we can map DNA we can map life well thats the theory.

Whats really amazing is how far we’ve come in being able to reprogram DNA to do different stuff like a cow giving birth a to a different species than it would normally give birth to and or another cow instead it gave birth to a rare and dieing race of animals that is similar enough to the cow that it can be a birth giver. the DNA of everything that lives is amazing but human beings actually have a relatively small base code compared to many other living creatures we have about 2 billion pieces of base code versus a basic bacteria which has almost 42 billion pieces of base code. In theory humans have only evolved ever so slightly thus we dont have very much base code.

Although being able to reprogram DNA can be quite scary you will be able to regrow limbs and bring back species that havnt walked the earth in millions of years although the main problem is most of the DNA is incomplete and we have not figured out how to fill in the said blank spaces in the code. Some bacteria can live in the harshes conditions and form the most interesting things because of how the DNA fills in code for that specific species and every single species is extremely unique.

The world is an amazing place that never ceases to amaze in how many different ways that we advance in life every day.
