Many of you know that the reason behind TED is too have some of the brightest, smartest, and most successful people in the world give talks about their experiences and what they are passionate about. Well Richard St. John’s 8 secrets of success come from those very people.
On his way to a TED talk he sat next to a girl who came from a poor background. She asked him, “How do you be successful?” Sadly he did not have the answer, but when he go to TED he was determined to find the answer. He was at the conference with some of the most successful people in the world so he decided to ask them how to be successful. He came up with 8 words.
“I’m driven by my passion.” – Freeman Thomas car designer, DaimlerChrysler
Most of the TED-sters do what they do for love not for money and generally if they do it for love the money comes with it.
“It’s all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun.” – Rupert Murdoch big cheese CEO
This links with passion because if you do something that you love you won’t mind the hard work and it will be fun.
“To be successful put your nose down in something and get damn good at it.” -Alex Garden game developer
It’s like how our mentors always tell us, practice, practice, practice. If we are good at something then we can be more successful in that field of work.
“I think it all has to do with focusing yourself to one thing. – Norman Jewison filmaker
If we focus on one thing we can get better and better.
“Push yourself. Physically, mentally, you gotta push, push, push. – David Gallo marine scientist
You have to push through shyness and self-doubt. And when you can’t push yourself your mother can do that for you.
“My mother pushed me” – Frank Gehry
You need to be able to push through all the obstacles that are thrown at you and keep your focus.
“It was a privilege to serve as a doctor.” – Sherwin Nuland professor of surgery, Yale
If you want to be a millionaire then you shouldn’t serve yourself, but serve others something of value and you will be rewarded. Serving in the community can help earn you respect for when you grow up, resulting in better job opportunities to become successful.
“I had an idea – founding the first micro-computer software company…” – Bill Gates software guy
To come up with an idea listen, observe, be curious, ask questions, problem solve, make connections, and be creative.
“Persistence is the number one reason for our success.” – Joe Kraus co-founder, Excite
Yo have to persist through failure or you will never be able to reach your goal. It’s like experimenting, experiment until it works. You have to persist through the following types of challenges:
Never stop trying no matter what tries to stop you.
If you have an idea that serves other people and is a great passion for you, then focus and work hard to be good at it. Push yourself to do your very best and persist through any crap that comes your way. With these eight words you will be successful.
