Dan Dennett: Response to Rick Warren

Who designed the cow?

Dan Dennett believes natural selection designed it then we modified it to our standards. Just like cows, religion has been reverse engineered by people throughout the years. They both are natural phenomena and both have been engineered.

Dan believes we should study religions as vigorously as History or Math. He sees a world where all schools teach of all the different religions’ facts to students. Their parents could still focus them on the religion of the parents choosing. But they would still have an understanding of other religions. Parents are their children’s stewards, they don’t own them.

He believes it is their duty to tell their children of other religions. If not it would defy the democratic principles we have lived with for so long. Democracy depends on an informed citizenship. It has been how democracy functions throughout the years. When talking about religion many people get worked up and emotional.

Dan Dennett is trying to break that spell.
