Torsten Reil:  Studies Biology to Make Animation

Torsten Reil works on animations with his company NaturalMotion. Torsten Reil codes computer simulations with biologically modeled nervous systems to make his animations. Animation is the rapid display of a sequence of images of 2-D or 3-D artwork or model positions in order to create an illusion of movement.

In this TED Talk, Mr. Reil talks about how the study of biology can help make natural looking animated people. He proves his point by building a human from the inside out, with bones, muscles and a nervous system. This animation will change movies and video games. In games the animation is a graphical visualization of the character and many human characters in movies. To make these animations ,you first have to lay out what the character is going to do. Then you have to animate the motion and the layout. The animation comes in the result of interactive motions.

Animation people are compared to real human being because of their motor skills and a physical body to react with. For animating a human, first you have to get the joints right. If you don’t animate the joints right the figure will fall over. Then you have to fit in the virtual muscles to make the human completely also have to fit your work into a gravity area. Animations can be used in so many ways.
