Thomas Barnett:  Draws a New Map for Peace

In this video, Barnett discusses a solution for the United States military.

When I saw that I was assigned to this video, I thought he was going to be talking about how war is terrible and that we should all be friends. But that is not what the video was about.

Barnett has worked for the Pentagon for fifteen years. He says that it took him fourteen years to figure this out.

Barnett believes that the problem that we are facing today is that there is not a Secretary of Everything Else.

Barnett proposes to divide the work. I actually really agree with Barnett.

America is so good at fighting and taking people down, but not good at helping them rebuild. This is what Barnett says is the problem. America is good at war but not “everything else.”

Barnett’s ideas are very brilliant. He proposes that the United States have two groups. A Department of War, and a Department of everything else.

It is hard for young soldiers to go from shooting and killing to helping rebuild. The young soldiers take down the terrorists and threats. Soldiers are sent to fight. And after all the fighting is done, we should send a different group of people to help rebuild.

Barnett split these groups into the Leviathan Force and the Sys Admin Force.

The Leviathan Force would kill and take down the threats. He calls the Leviathan force the fighters. Young, angry, and unmarried soldiers willing to fight.

And the Sys Admin Force is the educated people with families and children. This force would be in charge of helping rebuild the country.
