Syllabus & Dates

Please note that students will spend on average 3 days / week in class focused on the TEDxProject from March 29th (the launch of the project) to May 21st (the last day in class prior to Semester exams and the end of the school year).

Here is an approximate description of their schedule:

Week 1 (Mar 29-Apr 2) — Note:  there is no school on Fri, Apr 2

  • Mon:  Launch the TEDxProject; students begin selecting their 8+ TED Talks
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed:  Mr. Long will preview several TED Talks and explain the larger goal of TED (and TEDx) as an ‘community’
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri:  No school

Week 2 (Apr 5-9)

  • Mon: Final day for students to select their 8+ TED Talks (first-come/first-serve basis) — note: all student-selected talks and link to their posts can be found here; TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed)
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed:  TEDxProject analysis/writing studio
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri: TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed)

Week 3 (Apr 12-16)

  • Mon: 1st/2nd TED Talks summaries due; TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed); CoverItLive session @ 9pm CST (-6GMT) — link to be provided each week on the blog
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed: TEDxProject analysis/writing studio
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri: TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed)

Week 4 (Apr 19-23)

  • Mon: 3rd/4th TED Talks summaries due; TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed); CoverItLive session @ 9pm CST (-6GMT) — link to be provided each week on the blog
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors); Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed: TEDxProject analysis/writing studio
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri: TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed)

Week 5 (Apr 26-30) — Note: April 30 is a 1/2 day (non-academic)

  • Mon: 5th TED Talks summaries due; TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed); CoverItLive session @ 9pm CST (-6GMT) — link to be provided each week on the blog
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed: TEDxProject analysis/writing studio
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri: TEDxProject Talk ‘presentations’ (students defend in front of the class various TED Talks they’ve analyzed)

Week 6 (May 3-7) — Note: Junior Prom is on Sat, May 8

  • Mon: 6th TED Talks summaries due; TEDxProject analysis/writing studio; CoverItLive session @ 9pm CST (-6GMT) — link to be provided each week on the blog
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed: TEDxProject analysis/writing studio
  • Thurs: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Fri: TEDxProject analysis/writing studio

Week 7: (May 10-14) — Note: Senior Graduation is on Sat, May 15

  • Mon:  7th TED Talks summaries due; TEDxProject Talks; CoverItLive session @ 9pm CST (-6GMT) — link to be provided each week on the blog
  • Tues: Shakespeare’s Othello (Honors) or Shakespeare’s Macbeth (Survey)
  • Wed: TEDxProject Talks

Week 8: (May 17-21)
